Bottom: The bottom of the cabinet is the lowest shelf. For wall cabinets with a face frame, the bottom sits level with the top of the bottom face frame rail, so you do not have a lip on the shelf. It sits level with the top of the toe-kick for the base cabinets.

Toe-kick: A toe-kick is a feature of base cabinets that raises cabinets slightly off the floor. It can be cut into the cabinet side. You can as well build a 2x4 box on the floor as a toe-kick and then place the cabinets on top of it for larger sections of cabinets. When working on large spans of cabinets, this is advantageous because you can get more sides cut out of a 4'x8' sheet of plywood when using the standard cabinet height, thereby reducing cost. Before installing the cabinets, you can easily level the 2x4 box.
